Motivation Theories

As the world changes modernization of business is evident in every part of the world. These businesses are constituted of complex organizational structures resulting to a lot of problems and work pressures. This phenomenon is proving to be a hard nut for the managers and their constituents to crack due to persistent challenge of motivation among workers to work towards raising and realizing the organization goals and their personal targets in life. Often managers are not in a position to understand the response of their employee on certain efforts to give a better output in the organization. The employee on the other hand doesn’t know if their efforts are being recognized in the business and properly analyzed.

Working and remaining in an organization for some time requires something to keep anybody working, salary of the worker might not be enough to keep him or her in the organization and motivation technique is required. For the changes to be realized in the running of the organization a good policy of motivation to the employees is essential on the management platform. Motivation is the feeling of interest or enthusiasm that leads to a person taking a certain action. Motivation is mostly confused with either volition or optimism which is wrong; it’s related to but distinct from emotion (Seligman and Martin, 1990). In most scenarios motivation comes from some desire that results to certain behavior that in the end gives some reward after the desire is realize. Formulation of policies and strategies is often undertaken by the management to lure the workers in performing to their level best.

Managers should always be in a position to understand the different employees and their attitude in the motivation process. Motivation is well studied by psychologists who deeply sorted to understand the human motivation and came to the conclusion that the type of motivation is determined by three factors which include the employee needs for certain types, extrinsic factors and intrinsic factors. The early theorist concluded all their theories on the three types of motivation factors. The two types of motivation include intrinsic and extrinsic motivations. Intrinsic motivation is self driven, coming from within. This is the type of motivation that is brought about by the feeling of pleasure, interest and enjoyment in the work being undertaken by an individual. The person thinks and feels whatever he or she is doing is of help and a student who realizes that education is for gaining knowledge and not just attaining good grades and becomes interested in a deep mastery of a subject.
